Favourite Berlin Places - #1 East London Café

Today I want to show you one of my very favourite places of my Kreuzberg neigbourhood: A small British café and restaurant called East London. It's a cozy little place with iconic brick walls, old photographs and a wonderful, hand-built white tiled bar. While the menu includes all kinds of very affordable English specialties such as different pies, soups, main dishes, breakfast and cakes, the main reason I keep coming back is the ginger beer (which is impossible to get anywhere else in Berlin), the scones and the lovely British guys working at this place. If you are on holidays in Berlin or just visiting from another town, come to this place. It is adorable.

And what am I wearing? Well, I decided to go for something bold ("Don't you think you're a little overdressed?" I heard the bf say) but cute at the same time. The sequined shorts I've found at ShopAKIRA are quite the eye catcher and they're yet another piece I can't wait to be wearing bare-legged once the weather becomes a little less ridiculous than right now. The fluffy jumper combined with the red Stradivarius bag makes for another nice colour-combination and I must say, the tribal pattern on the bag is so lovely. I've been carrying this bag around all week because it's so pretty, has a great colour and can even fit a small grocery shopping inside itself - wow!

Heute möchte ich euch einen meiner absoluten Lieblingsorte aus meiner kreuzberger Nachbarschaft vorstellen: Ein kleines britisches Café und Restaurant namens East London. Das ist ein gemütlicher Ort, wo die typischen Backsteinwände mit alten Fotos verziert sind und die beeindruckende Bar aus weißen Holzplatten zusammengezimmert wurde. Obwohl das Menü kaum einen Wunsch offen lässt, was köstliches und bezahlbares britisches Essen betrifft (es gibt Pies, Suppen, Hauptgerichte, Frühstück und Kuchen), komme ich vor allem wegen dem Ingwerbier (was sich sonst fast unmöglich in Berlin auftreiben lässt), den Scones und der netten englischen Bedienung immer wieder gerne hier her. Wenn ihr Urlaub in Berlin macht oder einfach mal aus einer anderen Stadt für ein Weilchen vorbei schaut, solltet ihr einmal hier her kommen. Es ist so wunderbar.

Und was für Kleidung trage ich? Nun, ich habe mich für etwas auffälliges ("Findest du nicht, dass du etwas overdressed bist?" hat mich mein Freund gefragt) und gleichzeitig ganz niedliches Outfit entschieden. Die Paillettenshorts habe ich bei ShopAKIRA entdeckt und die sind schon echt auffällig. Die Hose ist aber auch so ein Kleidungsstück, bei dem ich kaum erwarten kann, dass es draußen wettertechnisch endlich etwas weniger lächerlich zugeht und ich sie ohne Strumpfhose ausführen kann. Der wuschelig-weiche Pulli und die schöne, rote Stradivarius-Tasche machen sich zusammen auch sehr gut und ich muss sagen, dass das Muster auf der Tasche wirklich so toll ist. Ich trage die Tasche jetzt schon seit Tagen jeden Tag mir mir herum. Sie ist einfach so hübsch, das Rot ist klasse und außerdem passt witzigerweise ein kleiner Supermarkteinkauf hinein - wow!

S/S 2013 Styling Trend: Black And White

On the hunt for the new Spring/Summer 2013 fashion trends, I clicked through the pages at LUISAVIAROMA.COM and suddenly got reminded of a game old men like to play at the train stations in Budapest and Belgrade: chess! Do you know how to play chess? Honestly, I don't and and I'm not a very strategic person so it probably isn't for me. But I suppose, wearing a chessboard on myself would be an exception I am willing to make.

Honestly, though, how absolutely stunning is the Spring/Summer 2013 women's collection by Balmain? I am in love with every single leather jacket and adore the bold black and white styles mixed with baroque lace details. If I could, I would wear any of the below looks on the street, never minding the weirded-out people probably thinking "WTF, did a chess board just pass me by?".

If you want to shop this funky black and white fashion trend, here you can find BALMAIN CLOTHING on LVR or wait until the likes of Zara and H&M start copying the chessboard trend (because naturally, they will).

Auf der Jagd nach den modischen Trends für Frühjahr/Sommer 2013, als ich mich gemütlich durch die Seiten auf LUISAVIAROMA.COM clickte, wurde ich plötzlich an ein Spiel erinnert, dass alte Männer gern am Hauptbahnhof von Budapest und Belgrad spielen: Schach! Könnt ihr Schach spielen? Ehrlich gesagt kann ich es nicht und da ich nun leider auch nicht die aller logischste Person aller Zeiten bin, ist das wohl kein Spiel für mich. Aber ich denke, ein Schachbrett am Körper zu tragen, das wäre eine Ausnahme, die ich machen würde.

Aber nun mal ehrlich, wie absolut beeindruckend ist die Frühling/Sommer 2013 Damenkollektion von Balmain? Ich liebe wirklich jede einzelne der Lederjacken und bin verrückt nach den schwarz-weißen Styles, die clever mit weißen Barockmustern verziert wurden. Wenn ich könnte, würde ich jeden der Looks, die ich unten zusammen gestellt habe, auf der Straße tragen. Da wäre es mir auch egal, wenn die Leute sich sich verdutzt fragen würden "WTF, ist da grad ein Schachbrett an mir vorbei gelaufen?".

Wenn ihr diesen witzigen Schwarz-und-Weiß-Trend shoppen wollt, könnt ihr BALMAIN KLEIDUNG auf LVR finden oder warten, bis Zara, H&H und co. anfangen, den Schachbrett-Trend zu kopieren (denn das werden sie natürlich tun).

The Blog Is Back Online!!!

"The blog is dead! Long live the blog!"

Time to celebrate! Even though it still seems a little too good to be true and I hope that it won't be gone again in a few minutes. Anyway, since the old URL http://www.wie-hund-und-katze.com is apparently back working, I suppose I'll give it another try.

I hope you won't leave me just yet, only because I was gone for three days. There are loads of new adventures in fashion and style coming in the following days and weeks and I truly hope you will be part of this journey. You guys are the ones that keep this blog running and I love how many of you have sent me e-mails asking about the whereabouts of my blog. It shows that you really do care and that is the most precious thing in the world. Bless you all!

But a few minor changes have been made to my Instagram and Twitter accounts. You can find me on both @catsanddogsblog now, it makes things a bit easier. On Facebook, I can already be found at facebook.com/catsanddogsblog. And who knows, I might actually change the URL of this blog one day, but it is definitely NOT TODAY and not any day soon.

How do you like this look? I wanted to go for some sporty elegance this weekend, so I chose monochrome colours. The sporty suit is from Zara's (like all my suits, duh) current collection and the lovely shirt is from Saint Noir. They have some pretty cool shirts, but this print was my favourite. It's so nice because well, it's cute and cheeky at the same time. I love that.

Zeit zum Feiern! Obwohl es immer noch ein wenig zu gut erscheint um wahr zu sein und ich hoffe sehr, dass er nicht in ein paar Minuten wieder verschwunden ist. Aber gut, da die alte URL http://www.wie-hund-und-katze.com wieder zu funktionieren scheint, werde ich es damit einfach nochmal versuchen.

Ich hoffe auch, dass ihr mich jetzt nicht verlassen werdet, nur weil ich ein paar Tage verschwunden war. In den kommenden Tagen und Wochen kommen einige spannende neue modische Abenteuer auf mich zu und ich hoffe wirklich sehr, dass ihr Teil dieser Reise sein werdet. Ihr seid diejenigen, die diesen Blog am Laufen halten und es war unfassbar, wie viele von euch besorgte E-Mails geschickt haben, als der Blog offline war. Das zeigt mir, dass es euch wirklich wichtig ist, was ich hier mache und das ist das wertvollste auf der ganzen Welt.

Aber einige kleine Veränderungen gibt es doch. Auf Instagram und Twitter könnt ihr mich ab sofort @catsanddogsblog finden, das erleichtert die Sache schon etwas. Auf Facebook bin ich ja ohnehin schon auf facebook.com/catsanddogsblog zu finden. Und wer weiß, vielleicht ändere ich ja doch irgendwann mal meine Blog URL, aber das wird NICHT HEUTE und auch nicht in der näheren Zukunft sein.

Wie gefällt euch der Look? Ich wollte dieses Wochenende mal sportlich-elegant ausprobieren und habe dafür monochrome Farben gewählt. Der sportliche Anzug ist (wie alle meine Anzüge) von Zara aus der aktuellen Kollektion und das schöne Shirt ist von Saint Noir. Dort gibt es eine große Anzahl an coolen Shirts, aber mir hat dieses hier am besten gefallen. Es ist irgendwie süß und frech zugleich und das liebe ich total.

Hollywood Elegance / Styling HariTHanD

"Non, je ne regrette rien..."

Bigger, bolder, better? Well, I guess sometimes, this is just what we need. Why, if the time and the place seems right, not just go for it and make a point with your outfit? You might have noticed I'm never shy about what I'm wearing. I put on what feels nice and right and well, simply Ricky. I enjoy making heads turn, it's fun and curious at the same time.
But how to dress big without looking overly overdressed? How to not look ridiculous and still wear whatever you want? How to stand out from the grey crowd?
Well, I guess that all every woman really needs for this is to find and formulate her own idea of feminine elegance.

When I was kindly asked to style this wonderfully exquisit blazer jacket and clutch by HariTHanD, a fantastic Lebanese label based in Beirut, I wasn't sure if red and yellow together in one outfit could work for me. By instinct, I'd have chosen my black PS11 to go with the blazer I suppose. But then I was convinced that it is okay to sometimes take simple elegance to the next level in order to create a special effect. How? By simply daring and trying. So I put on my most elegant make-up, the biggest hat I own, a lot of leather, high boots and together with the blazer and the clutch, I felt like a perfectly cool mix of back-in-the-day Hollywood diva and gangster. Friend and foe, side by side in one outfit, it couldn't ever get any better. I sure made heads turn again.

This is why styling is so much fun to me. Always going that one step further...

Größer, auffälliger, besser? Nun, manchmal brauche ich genau das. Warum auch, wenn denn die Zeit und der Ort richtig erscheint, nicht einfach einmal die Chance nutzen und mit dem eigenen Outfit wirklich etwas aussagen? Euch ist ja bekannt, dass ich keine Scheu habe, was meine Kleidung angeht. Ich ziehe an, was sich gut und richtig und irgendwie Ricky anfühlt. Ich mag es auch, wenn sich die Leute umdrehen und gucken. Ich finde das lustig und zugleich immer wieder interessant.
Aber wie sich auffällig anziehen, ohne gleich Overdressed auszusehen? Wie nicht gleich lächerlich wirken und trotzdem tragen, was immer man möchte? Wie sich von der grauen Masse absetzen?
Nun, ich denke, alles, was jede Frau dazu eigentlich nur braucht, ist, ihre eigene Definition von weiblicher Eleganz zu finden und zu formulieren.

Als mir angeboten wurde, diesen exquisiten Blazer und diese schöne Clutch des in Beirut ansässigen, libanesischen Labels HariTHanD zu stylen, wusste ich erst nicht, ob rot und gelb in ein und demselben Outfit für mich jemals funktionieren könnte. Instinktiv hätte ich zu diesem Blazer wohl eher meine schwarze PS11 gewählt. Aber dann wurde ich eines Besseren belehrt und überzeugt, dass simple Eleganz manchmal auf das nächste Level gebracht werden kann, um einen besonderen Effekt zu erzielen. Wie das? Indem man es wagt und einfach einmal ausprobiert natürlich. Mit dem schönsten Make-Up, dem größten Hut in meinem Besitz, viel Leder, hohen Stiefeletten und zusammen mit dem Blazer und der Clutch fühlte ich mich sofort wie der perfekte Mix aus Hollywood-Diva und -gangster von früher. Freund und Feind, Seite an Seite in einem Outfit, viel besser geht es kaum. Es haben sich sicher wieder ein paar Leute umgedreht.

Das ist der Grund, warum Styling so viel Spaß macht. Immer einen Schritt weiter zu gehen...

Suit Yourself

Today's outfit is all about the green checkered suit. Generally, I'm very much into wearing suits right now and this one balances the whole suit-oh-so-business with a light-hearted wink (because of its fantastic pattern of course!) quite perfectly. Wearing the suit combined with a bold sweatshirt is even less office-chic, so I thought I had to do it. I also like how the colours work really well together. Green and burgundy has always been a mix I really enjoyed looking at, so there you go.

Today, I don't have much else to say and since I'm a little sick-ish myself, I'll leave you with these pretty pictures and not much ranting. Have a great start of the week and make the best of it!

Das heutige Outfit dreht sich vor allem um den grünkarierten Anzug. Ich trage momentan ohnehin sehr gerne Anzüge und dieser hier ist eine schöne, ausgewogene Mischung aus dem ganzen Anzug-heißt-Business und einem leichten Augenzwinkern (wegen des großartigen Musters natürlich!). Zusammen mit einem auffälligen Sweatshirt kombiniert ist der Anzug sogar noch weniger Büro-Chic, also musste ich das natürlich tun. Ich mag auch sehr, wie gut die Farben hier harmonieren. Grün und Weinrot zu kombinieren mochte ich schon immer, also versteht ihr sicher meine Beweggründe.

Heute habe ich ansonsten nicht viel zu sagen und weil ich ein wenig am kränkeln bin, lasse ich euch nun mit ein paar hübschen Bildchen allein und erzähle nichts mehr. Habt einen guten Wochenanfang und macht das Beste draus!
